The Synergistic Glucose-lowering Effects of Metformin and Bavachinin on Type II Diabetic Rats

Background: Diabetes is one of the most prevalent endocrine disorders in humans, and its first-line medication metformin. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR–γ) agonists are adjuncts to Bavachinin a PPAR pan-agonist with fewer side effects than metformin" into PPAR–γ agonists. In this study, synergistic metformin were investigated on type II diabetic rats. Methods: After four weeks high fat glucose diet, diabetes was induced 28 male Wistar rats, using injection streptozotocin nicotinamide. The animals distributed five groups seven each: 1) Normal control (N), 2) Diabetic (D), 3) rats receiving (DM), 4) (DB), 5) Metformin plus (DMB). Oral tolerance test (OGTT), fasting blood (FBG), insulin (FINS), homeostasis model assessment β-cell function (HOMA-β), resistance (HOMA-IR), sensitivity index (ISI) obtained. Results: OGTT results DM, DB, DMB significantly improved compared that D group. FBG levels lower groups. FINS less those HOMA-IR HOMA-β comparable between N ISI Conclusion: may be used combined for treatment at doses metformin, thus having effects.
